Some dirty little critter had hacked the Leeuwin3rd site which would have taken you (hijacked) to other sites that you didn’t want to go to! Hopefully it is OK now. I still have to restore the page image.

Hi All,
A couple of the Posts have indicated that we should all get together to reminisce as there will be little time to catch up properly during the formal functions. If you are interested please Post a reply and if the numbers are sufficient I shall see if I can arrange something.
Cheers

Hi Allan,
Yeah, been in the West since 1984, when I pulled the pin and transferred to the Reserves. But that’s another story.
Was quite surprised to see the names that hadn’t registered. My own brother is not coming across and some of our own divison that live over here (well they did the last time I saw them which was a few years ago) have’t bothered. Bit strange really.
1100 at the dinner is a bit large for me, but I suppose it’s good that we have attracted that many. Will have to get to the Burswood early to find a parking spot as they are pretty tight, although the OAP gamblers may not be out in force at the casino on a week day.
Let me have a think about getting everyone together. I shall get back and let you know if I decide to take it on. My wife and I don’t get back from our trip to Europe until about two weeks before the big event, so it may be a bit rushed to organise something, but will see. I suppose the first thing is to see how many would be interested in getting together. Perhaps they could post their interest here.
Haven’t put my name down for a table so hope that the organisers are able to seat us all in the near vicinity or else we may need a road map and a cut lunch to get around to everyone. Have you organised a table or taking pot luck like me?
As far as the images are concerned, this is one of the areas that I have an interest in as I have been working with a very large photographic collection at the Army Museum of WA for a couple of years, where I do volunteer time. You can do all sorts of things getting memento books together, and all done on line these days at very reasonable charges.
Looking forward to catching up. Oh by the way, where are you staying?
Cheers

Hi Allan,
Well I have finally managed to get this far after many months of trying. Don’t know what I was doing wrong but anyway here I am.
After seeing other JR sites I was wondering who was going to put their hand up and do one for our intake. Lo and behold you did, and a fine job indeed. Then we could always rely on the Fleet Air Arm to do a good job.
It is great looking at the images. Could never afford a camera myself as a JR and hence only have one of my time as a JR at Leeuwin. I was back there as a kellick 1971 and then as Divisional Officer for Ramsay Division in 1981/82. Came back to the West again in 1984 as Senior Recruiting Officer and left the PNF in October the same year and joined the Reserves and once again back to Leeuwin.
I still have an association with the place now that it is Leeuwin Barracks as I am the Chairman of the Board of the Army Museum of Western Australia, located in Fremantle, a short drive from Leeuwin. The Museum is run by the Army and we are able to use the facilities of the Mess (old Wardroom).
Really looking forward to catching up with everyone at the Reunion. Are we all getting together as a group before the official functions begin?
Anyway Allan, great work with the site and now that I can make comment will certainly have more to say.
Cheers

Hi Graham – terrific to hear from you at last. I had noticed that you have been registered for some time and wondered why you haven’t posted. Now here you are! There are a couple of others who are still without voice and of course 2 divisions that haven’t bothered at all. Didn’t realize you were now in the West.
The question regarding getting together as a group has no answer at this time – Pommy Adams was concerned with that question too. Hopefully someone here might organize something (a WA native I guess would be the best bet). The HUGE dinner doesn’t sound like much fun to me anymore.
I’m still soldering (sailoring?) on here in Canberra as a digital photography lecturer specialising in forensic photography. Web skills are something I picked up in my previous full-time employment. Lots of fun except for the HACK that I have just had to deal with.
The photos have been really fantastic, like you I never had a camera until leaving Leeuwin. I was really amazed at what came forward and the quality of the photos. A nice project for someone to collate the photos into a historical work that I would be happy to publish in PDF format?
Look forward to some more posts!
